The Stranger and Me- A Christmas Blessing

THE QUIET GIFT
At this season of celebration and sharing, many of us extend our love and care for one another with the traditional custom of gift giving.  Santa arrives with a slew of colored parcels or we carefully select the perfect something for a loved one during Hanukkah or Kwanza.  The preparation of cooking and shopping whirls our often hectic lives up a notch into a stratosphere of commotion.  It is fun and crazy-making both.  Amid, all the hub-bub, sometimes it is the quiet gift that reaches most deeply into our hearts.  I share my experience on such an offering.

Dashing amid the wheels of shopping carts, the grocery store is in a pre-Christmas skirmish of shoppers; hams and clementines topping the neighbors’ wares in the aisle with me. So much effort and love goes into these days of sharing and caring, it seems. I am a tad behind the curve this year, only selecting our tree this weekend, actually finding the last one in town, my family due in town tomorrow. Now, its’ bushy branches hoist my childhood ornaments of 50 years ago and my son’s tongue depressor reindeer from first grade. Prettily our tree twinkles in colored baubles, filling our home with cheer and anticipation.

The thought I am percolating on though was prompted earlier today in the market. Reaching for a cart, I backed up and brushed the heel of an elderly woman leaving with her bags of food.  A mere brush of my shoe and somehow she went into stock still frozen mode. I moved ahead and then glanced back…She remained frozen. I turned and went back to check on her  sensing something was wrong.

“Are you Ok?” I ask.

“No. I have a back problem and now am in pain,” an icy voice and stoney glare ahead, not at me.

“I am sorry. I know about pain. Can I help you in some way?” I offer.

“No. No one can help me,” the tone is like cement.

“Should I help you wheel your cart?”

“No.”

“I am sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. My foot just skimmed by your heel,” my sensing words express.
Stillness…no words, no eye contact.
I weave my energy from my heart towards hers…I stay still, too.
She looks at me oddly. I smile. She glowers.

“I hope you have a Merry Christmas,” I suggest.

“Not possible,” she mumbles.

Am I daunted? Am I put off? A bit.

Then a thought arises in me. Her cart is shallow in groceries compared to the others. Maybe she is alone?

“So, do you have family to help you?”

“No.”

It was then that I felt her pain, more than the back or than the shoe skimming. It was the pain of loneliness. I knew that feeling.
I then heard odd words coming from me- “Well, I hope the spirit of your ancestors visit you this holiday. They can be a sort of company, maybe?”

“Yes. I have already lit the candles for them,” the crackled woman says.

Finally, her eyes meet mine.  I see the weariness in her soul.

I smile. She tries to. I nod. She moves on, and I hear very faintly- “God bless.”

Motionless, I absorb this moment of grace.  I turn and enter into the maze of aisles. The holiday freneticism throngs, yet a quiet pool sits in my chest. Two unsuspect strangers, threaded with a simple gift- that of human compassion.

God bless us all, alone, in company, in comfort, in peace, in need, in joy.  It is the gift of the heart that touches most simply.

Katina I. Makris, is the host of “Lyme Light Radio”, an Intuitive Healer, Classical Homeopath, Inspirational Speaker and author of “Out of the Woods; Healing Lyme Disease, Body, Mind & Spirit.” Her next book “Auto-Immune Illness and Lyme Disease, Mending Body, Mind & Spirit” will be released by Skyhorse Publishing in September 2015.

Teenagers & Lyme Disease Podcast with Dr. Lantsman, Lyme Light Radio

Teenagers get Lyme disease! No age group is exempt from this bacterial infection, spread by the common tick. Incidence of cases contracted is soaring. I learned from researcher, Dr. John Aucott, that the 300,00 annual cases contracted in the USA surpasses the peak of the AIDS epidemic, which teetered at 104,000 cases annually in the late 1980’s. Everyone needs to be tick ALERT nationwide.

On September 4, “Lyme Light Radio with Katina” featured the subject of “Teenagers and Lyme Disease”. This is a powerful show. Please listen to the podcast HERE.

The esteemed Dr. Katherine Lantsman, mypathmedical.com, an Integrative Medicine physician who specializes in tick borne illness embodies my philosophy of success in overcoming Lyme disease. She has a strong handle on the complexity of symptoms this illness induces.

Killing the microbial infections (often more than just borrelia burgdorferi exists inside your body), defining the imbalances and depletions induced from a rampant infection, addressing food, allergies, fungal overgrowth, and tending to emotional and spiritual aspects of chronic illness, she integrates with aplomb.

Please pay close attention to the case she shares of 18 year old “Roger”! It is fascinating to witness how Dr. Lantsman isolated the severe endocrine imbalances he was afflicted with, prominent endocrinologists said he was “fine” and lyme specialists claimed none of the known antibiotic therapies were effective with Roger. Defeated, seriously ill, diabetic, isolated, 30 lbs overweight and sinking at age 19, Roger has made enormous recovery strides in less than one year, via Dr. Lantsman’s Integrative Medicine skills. Her discussion with me is an eye-opener!

Teens often manifest vivid emotional, mental and neurological symptoms from ‘hidden’ Lyme disease infections. Since their nervous systems are still developing and hormones are being rapidly produced, if a bacterial infection sets up residence in their body,  ‘odd’ symptoms surface readily, while their very active immune response may keep physical symptoms at a milder display than adults. Each case is unique though, and a broad spectrum of symptoms may erupt.

Anxiety, insomnia, OCD, ADD/ADHD, headaches, depression, stammering, malaise, poor concentration, angry rages, panic, tics, tourette syndrome, are common manifestations in the nervous system teens easily display with Lyme, and are the majority of the time misdiagnosed, medicated and left malingering.

Body aches, sore joints or ribs, exhaustion, digestive disorders and brain fog are often dismissed as ‘teenage angst’. Lyme beware! The microbes are messing around with our treasured offspring’s chemistry. They are sick and typically misdiagnosed. I have met too many 20 year olds whom were put on adderall for years, complaining with a ‘soccer’ knee injury, and too tired to do homework.

Get them properly test at Igenex or Clongen labs.

Chloe Rapp of Massachusetts bravely shared her ‘lost’ 9 years as a teen, near death’s door, despite aggressive Lyme antibiotic therapy, with us on-air. Thank you, articulate, empathic, intelligent Chloe for holding on to your beautiful spirit during these treacherous times in your life. I applause your tenacity and inner belief that you WILL recover fully, despite the damage Lyme disease and excessive antibiotics induced. Chloe’s message, conveyed in her interview, to promote support in school systems for teens dealing with Lyme disease can not be SHOUTED loud enough! I will help you get this platform going. Teens with Lyme need HELP!

It is my privilege to host “Lyme Light Radio”! Each week we look at Lyme disease and tick borne illness with a different lens. THere is so much we can learn from one another, as well as help promote awareness and dialogue. As always, I thank the powers that be, which helped place me in this role. Please share today’s link with your friends and group.

Dr. Lantsman and Chloe Rapp were profoundly honest and inspirational guests. Thank you for joining us and caring enough to help others. Also, thank you to our sponsor Advanced Cell Training, at AdvancedCellTraining.com, for helping Lyme Light Radio shine.

Schedule for August 18, Martha’s Vineyard, Lyme disease Events

Tick Borne Disease Alliance, based in NYC, and Martha’s Vineyard Lyme Center host a chock full day of Lyme disease educational, awareness and fundraising events. This is a significant day for the future health of our nation, as Lyme disease has now surpassed HIV as the fastest spreading infectious illness in the USA.

The CDC admits that the 30,000 cases of Lyme disease reported to them annually, are likely a mere 10% of the true number of cases actually contracted. When not treated promptly with pharmaceuticals in the early weeks of an infection, this shape shifting bacterial infection can morph into auto-immune style symptoms and illnesses. Millions of people in the USA are infected with Lyme disease and neither they nor the doctors are aware of this, as the standard lab test most turn to (if they even rcognize the Lyme suspicion at all) have a 70% false negative error rate. This means many of afflicted folks could ‘get well’, IF they got a proper Lyme diagnosis and treatments, instead of coping and deteriorating with Lupus, MS, ALS, fibromyalgia, CFS, RA, migraines, neuropathy and more.

TBDA, Lyme Light Radio, ILADS and more aim to end the denial, confusion and suffering surrounding the Lyme disease situation with their awarness, educational and fundraising efforts. Please join us on Martha’s Vineyard for this stupendous day, August 18. Or, tune in on-line to TheDrPatShow.com and listen in.

Bite Back For A Cure – Lyme Disease events

Bite Back For A CureCome join us on gorgeous Martha’s Vineyard, sadly ‘ground zero’ regarding Lyme disease infectious illness density, but a wonderful vacation isle and exciting place to be on August 18, 2013!

In affiliation with the Tick Borne Disease Alliance, a cutting edge group of Lyme enlightened folks based in NYC, we will be providing assorted venues regarding the fastest spreading infectious illness in the USA. See the menu on this flyer and also note that I will be doing a book signing with my award winning Lyme disease memoir and treatment guide, OUT OF THE WOODS, HEALING LYME DISEASE, BODY, MIND & SPIRIT, at: Edgartown Books, 10:00am – 11:30am

I will be presenting a Lyme disease talk at 1:00pm pertaining to signs and symptoms, diagnostic testing, why doctors fail to diagnose 90% of Lyme infections properly, treatment options and inspirational hope for recovery.

I was bedridden for 2 years with advanced Lyme disease, and misdiagnosed with CFS, migraines, anxiety disorders, IBS for 5 years until the Lyme bacteria was finally found by a savvy clinician. During this time I lost all we strive for— my career, income, home, marriage, health and well-being. I have recovered fully and am honored to share my healing story and tools with others, as well as promote Lyme disease awareness worldwide.

These events on August 18 are aligned to help raise research funds and attention for the all too crippling illness, and its stealthy presence in our modern environment. The dinner will be star studded and filled with wonderful energy and information.

Lyme Author Speaking in Ventura, California

I will be speaking in Ventura, California on Monday, March 18, 7pm. The Ventura/Westlake Lyme Disease Support Group is hosting me, the public is welcome.

I will be sharing my personal and professional experience with Lyme Disease, the epidemic of our era. Having now surpassed HIV as the quickest spreading infectious illness in the USA, this bacterial infection can affect any age group and all demographics. The tick, many varieties of the species, carry the illness. Migratory birds have transported these infected ticks all around the USA and internationally, with a vengeance over recent decades. Lyme is everywhere now!

Sadly, the CDC and Infectious Illness Society have yet to acknoweldge the ‘chronic’ form of this illness and and estimated 3,000,000 in the USA alone have been infected over the past 10 years and only 10% properly diagnosed, according to the CDC, a conservative group by nature.

I, like all too many, went misdiagnosed, (CFS, migraines, anxiety, IBS) for 5 years, and my entire life collapsed before me, leaving me bedridden, broke and bereft. Having recovered now, 5 years of treatments, I am devoted to sharing my hard earned wisdom on what it takes to beat this treacherous illness and how to attain better diagnostics, manage prevention and mend fully- body, mind & spirit.

I will have my award winning book with me, “Out of the Woods, Healing Lyme Disease, Body, Mind & Spirit”. Please feel free to join us, Q&A will be included at:

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, 7:00 pm

Dear Katie Couric, Please Help Lyme Disease

Dear Katie Couric,

Having lost 10 years of my life to misdiagnosed Lyme disease, two completely bedridden was beyond a living nightmare. Famous hospitals and doctors all looked me in the face, and gave me erroneous diagnoses like CFS, migraines, Fibromyalgia, peri-menopause, bi-polar disorder, when all the while it was the Lyme spirochete worming its way from my bloodstream to soft tissue to brain.Faulty lab testing, lack of doctor knowledge, misrepresentation by the Center for Disease Control and Infectious Disease Society have allowed this bacterial induced infectious illness to infect an estimated 3,000,000 Americans, including passing it to the fetus, over the past 10 years alone.

I lost my career and income, home and marriage, health and well-being to Lyme AND I am not alone. This epidemic now rages worldwide (89 countries have Lyme) and I am one of the rare few whom has fully recovered from this illness, with 5 years of intensive treatments and a whole life makeover. My award winning book OUT OF THE WOODS, HEALING LYME DISEASE, BODY, MIND & SPIRIT, chronicles my riveting journey and just what it looks like on the inside of this illness. My voice is one of the multitudes. Too many have lost too much.

I have now devoted my reclaimed life to Lyme disease education, recovery and advocacy. In 2012 I gave 37 lectures, 16 radio interviews, 8 front page newspaper pieces, 5 TV interviews, plus endless blogs and magazine articles on this illness. I can not ask you LOUD enough to cover this topic on your show Katie, and to bring me on as a guest. I will deliver an impressive interview for you that is authentic, intelligent and vital for the future health care of our country. This bacterial illness has surpassed HIV in how fast it is spreading. Time in NOT on our side, but your program and reporting are.

Thank you for caring for the all too many who have been mishandled for too long while Lyme disease surges.

Sincerely,
Katina Makris, CCH, CIH.
