MAYDAY 2013!
SATURDAY, MAY 25th, 2013
FREEDOM PLAZA
10:30 AM – 2:30 PM
WASHINGTON, DC

Please plan on joining us this Memorial Day weekend at FREEDOM PLAZA in Washington, DC, to show your support for Lyme disease patients, friends and family, promote awareness and URGE CHANGES!

Why a Rally?

Lyme disease and related infections and complications negatively affect millions of lives everyday, yet the denial and ignorance surrounding our disease(s) is astounding. We continue to face far too many needless issues, including (but certainly not limited to) accurate testing, diagnosis/misdiagnoses, an uninformed and misinformed medical community, effective treatments, insurance company denials, obtaining disability, and the high costs of available treatments. The multitude of issues surrounding this highly politicized disease(s) is so vast that the rally is not focusing in on one particular issue for MAYDAY 2013. Pick one, Be sure to put those issues on your Rally signs for the world to see!

As in years’ past, this year’s MAYDAY Rally will help to promote awareness of Lyme disease, to continue to build camaraderie within the ever-growing community, and to keep the pressure on our elected officials and insurance companies to take action regarding their negligence.

What is THE most important aspect of any rally or protest?

PEOPLE, multitudes of us! LOTS! Droves! This Rally needs as many humans as possible to be the success that we all need it to be (Think MILLION HUMAN MARCH!). We need large numbers to effectively present our case not only before Congress and our President, but to the media and the world. There is nothing like a rally in front of the White House, in the heart of our nation’s capitol, to insure that the Lyme message is heard, loud and clear, and that the correct info (as opposed to all of the disinfo that we see daily) is made available!

Friday Evening, May 24th:

We will be gathering at the official event hotel, The Hilton Alexandria Mark Center (please see hotel info below), to meet and greet each other and create signs for the protest the following day. This does not mean that you can’t create your sign at home. Just remember that this National Park does not allow sticks, poles or any other type of holding device for our signs — only the paper signs themselves. Your sign should be what rings true to you, whether a cure, better diagnostic tests, better treatments, better physician education, removal of the flawed IDSA treatment guidelines, etc. You will be exercising YOUR right to protest about YOUR specific issues!

Sign Design Tips:
-Use fewer words so that you can make the font size of your letters/words/images larger and thicker. Trying to cram too much info onto a sign makes for poor visibility from afar. If someone needs to stand a foot or less away from a protest sign to understand it, then you may need to rethink your message strategy.

– Bold colors and contrasting colors stand out more and have a much higher visibility than soft pastels or light, pale colors. GO BIG & BOLD for MAXIMUM IMPACT!

AND BE SURE TO GO GREEN! Even if you cannot afford to purchase an official MAYDAY 2013 t-shirt, please wear your fave green t-shirt so that we will have the highest visibility and impact possible! Also, rain or shine, please bring along a green umbrella to help as a shield from rain or sun, and so that, when used in unison, we make a unique, colorful impact!

Saturday Morning, May 25th

Pre-10:00 AM: Please feel free to get up early and lend a hand with whatever needs to be done prior to the event’s opening time.

IMPORTANT: The shirts with WHITE in the design cost more than the two-color/two-tone blue shirts. So, if a full-color design shirt is too costly, just select one that does not have white in it and the price will be lowered. Introducing Lyme Light Radio with Katina

It is with true pleasure I introduce to you my wonderful new website and an amazing opportunity for all.

http://lymelightradio.com/IMG_7795

Welcome to “Lyme-Light Radio with Katina”, a weekly radio talk show devoted to Lyme disease, in a host, guest, call-in format. Filled with information and inspiration, we aim to educate worldwide listeners on a diversity of Lyme-related topics. This is a timely show, and we are seeking sponsorship to launch by June, 2013.

Broadcast from Transformative Talk Radio’s flagship station, WBLQ 1230 AM, Westerly, RI, in the heart of Lyme country, we will reach 700,000 listeners in winter and 1,500,000 in summer throughout southern New England and New York, plus access to a 300 station syndicate expanded to major US cities, Australia and Europe, leveraging our audience into the multi-millions.

In partnership with The Dr. Pat Show, five years voted #1 most listened to network, “Lyme-Light Radio with Katina” is a huge step forward for the Lyme disease community, enabling us to expand global awareness through the very viable medium of talk radio, on a dynamic network.

As a recoveree of a ten-year chronic Lyme disease journey, I am honored to be your host. Selected by Dr. Pat Baccili for my avid Lyme disease education work, best selling, award winning book “Out of the Woods; Healing Lyme Disease Body, Mind & Spirit” and 28 years experience as a natural healthcare practitioner, my goal is to help end the suffering and confusion surrounding Lyme disease and associated conditions. But, we need your financial sponsorship to make this promising radio show happen.

Please contact me abou the media kit and information on Transformative Talk Radio, our broadcast outlets and syndicates, and the specifics of the “Lyme-Light Radio” show. The sponsorship kit expounds upon pricing for yearly, six month, or single show options. Commercial airtime, website banners, on-air interviews and more are all possible, helping you promote your service, product or message. Of course we welcome donors who value the nature of this program yet have no desire to have commercial or interview airtime.

This is a most exciting opportunity for all of us. Please join forces with me and let us change the future!

Sincerely,

Katina I. Makris, CCH, CIH

Carolina Here I Come! Lyme Disease Author Brings Hope and Help

The North Carolina Lyme Disease Foundation has invited me to come to their Lyme-ravaged state, bringing pertinent guidance on this swiftly spreading infectious illness epidemic. This is a very exciting opportunity for all!

Unfortunately Lyme and its co-infections have slipped under the radar in all of the South. Most doctors are completely unaware that Lyme is active and spreading, misdiagnosing thousands of cases as the flu, lupus, MS, CFS, ALS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, peri-menopause, depression, anxiety, food allergies, and more. They are following outdated CDC and Infectious Disease Society information from the 1980s that labels Lyme Disease as a mere short-term, two week condition.

Clinical evidence has established that this corkscrew bacteria migrates from the bloodstream, to joints and soft tissue, and eventually to the brain and nervous system, creating assorted chronic symptoms and triggering auto-immune style illnesses.

Currently, there are a mere handful of healthcare practitioners recognizing and treating chronic Lyme in North Carolina. Much education needs to be done.

My two talks, in Raleigh and Chapel Hill in April, are open to the public and sponsored by the North Carolina Lyme Foundation. I will present critical information and guidance on signs and symptoms, diagnostic labs, prevention, and treatment. April 7 in Raleigh, April 8 in Chapel Hill. See details below.

Please tell all of your contacts and friends to come and spread the word! This is the first time anyone has come to North Carolina bringing any sort of help or hope. I am honored to be the first “missionary” in, and of course aim to shift the tides of misunderstanding and Lyme denial in the South. Let us envision this trip as the tipping point!
