Visionary Healer and Founder of Inanna House, Mara Williams returns to Lyme Light Radio

The author of “Nature’s Dirty Needle”, a book for all of us that introduces case histories and the nuances of Lyme disease an co-infections joins me this week on Lyme Light Radio. Also the founder of the first residential tick borne disease treatment center in the making, Inanna House, Mara bears a deep compassion for the decimating damage this illness induces in patient’s lives. Families, careers, psyches and a body can be destroyed when Lyme disease becomes pervasively entrenched within our systems. Akin to the syphillus tragedies of centuries past, Lyme disease is the modern day maiming blood borne infectious illness.

As a seasoned Nurse Practitioner at the USA’s famed Gordon Medical Associates, Mara has extensive knowledge on the assorted modalities necessary to both deal with a new acute infection or the long term chronic types of advanced Lyme disease. Please help me welcome a true healer, a gifted visionary and a passionate Lyme disease advocate to my show this week. Mara’s wisdom is too precious to be missed.

Mara joins Lyme Light Radio this Wednesday, November 19, at 4 PM Eastern Time, 1pm Pacific Time. You can tune in live at http://www.transformationtalkradio.com or on WBLQ AM 1230 in Southern New England.

How I Overcame CFS, Fibromyalgia and Neurological Lyme Disease

Though it was a ten year healing journey in totality, I overcame a bedridden status of 3 years, and loss of everything I held dear; including my marriage and family, home and income, career and well-being, to heal 100% from advanced neurological Lyme disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. This is a true story and one for all struggling with chronic illness to view.

Please see the link here and watch the in depth, intimate and touching interview Dan Neuffer of CFS Unravlled site does with me. This is the stuff of life’s most important callings– your passage to health and happiness.

Katina Makris’ Chronic Lyme Disease & Fibromyalgia Syndrome Recovery

I First fell sick in the summer of 2000. Though living an organic outdoorsy lifestyle with a young family and wonderful husband, I was stricken with a ‘mysterious flu’ that progressed into chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and wicked almost daily migraines. No one knew how to help me. MS, anxiety attacks and more were batted about as my disorders.

I bounced in and out of prominent New England hospitals and doctor’s offices for 5 years- dissipating more each year. The CFS was crippling and my spirit broke. AND, a brilliant clinical nutritionist, PhD, ended up being the beacon in my shallow chamber of shadowed light, whom would finally properly diagnose and treat me–helping me heal fully and now travel the world with my book “OUT OF THE WOODS, HEALING LYME DISEASE, BODY, MIND & SPIRIT ” and broadcast my radio program LYME LIGHT RADIO on WBLQ.net and the famed TheDrPatShow syndicate.

I share this interview with all of you because I am impassioned to bring hope to those in need and information to those whom are confused. My heart is in this for all of those whom are struggling. Please do not ever give up and KNOW there is a way out of your misery. The power of your mind and the belief in your heart can work miracles. We are entwined in this journey of living. Whether it be this story of mine, the breath of a newborn in your arms or the touch of the moonlight on the silvery waters, please know there is hope for your healing.

Teenagers & Lyme Disease Podcast with Dr. Lantsman, Lyme Light Radio

Teenagers get Lyme disease! No age group is exempt from this bacterial infection, spread by the common tick. Incidence of cases contracted is soaring. I learned from researcher, Dr. John Aucott, that the 300,00 annual cases contracted in the USA surpasses the peak of the AIDS epidemic, which teetered at 104,000 cases annually in the late 1980’s. Everyone needs to be tick ALERT nationwide.

On September 4, “Lyme Light Radio with Katina” featured the subject of “Teenagers and Lyme Disease”. This is a powerful show. Please listen to the podcast HERE.

The esteemed Dr. Katherine Lantsman, mypathmedical.com, an Integrative Medicine physician who specializes in tick borne illness embodies my philosophy of success in overcoming Lyme disease. She has a strong handle on the complexity of symptoms this illness induces.

Killing the microbial infections (often more than just borrelia burgdorferi exists inside your body), defining the imbalances and depletions induced from a rampant infection, addressing food, allergies, fungal overgrowth, and tending to emotional and spiritual aspects of chronic illness, she integrates with aplomb.

Please pay close attention to the case she shares of 18 year old “Roger”! It is fascinating to witness how Dr. Lantsman isolated the severe endocrine imbalances he was afflicted with, prominent endocrinologists said he was “fine” and lyme specialists claimed none of the known antibiotic therapies were effective with Roger. Defeated, seriously ill, diabetic, isolated, 30 lbs overweight and sinking at age 19, Roger has made enormous recovery strides in less than one year, via Dr. Lantsman’s Integrative Medicine skills. Her discussion with me is an eye-opener!

Teens often manifest vivid emotional, mental and neurological symptoms from ‘hidden’ Lyme disease infections. Since their nervous systems are still developing and hormones are being rapidly produced, if a bacterial infection sets up residence in their body,  ‘odd’ symptoms surface readily, while their very active immune response may keep physical symptoms at a milder display than adults. Each case is unique though, and a broad spectrum of symptoms may erupt.

Anxiety, insomnia, OCD, ADD/ADHD, headaches, depression, stammering, malaise, poor concentration, angry rages, panic, tics, tourette syndrome, are common manifestations in the nervous system teens easily display with Lyme, and are the majority of the time misdiagnosed, medicated and left malingering.

Body aches, sore joints or ribs, exhaustion, digestive disorders and brain fog are often dismissed as ‘teenage angst’. Lyme beware! The microbes are messing around with our treasured offspring’s chemistry. They are sick and typically misdiagnosed. I have met too many 20 year olds whom were put on adderall for years, complaining with a ‘soccer’ knee injury, and too tired to do homework.

Get them properly test at Igenex or Clongen labs.

Chloe Rapp of Massachusetts bravely shared her ‘lost’ 9 years as a teen, near death’s door, despite aggressive Lyme antibiotic therapy, with us on-air. Thank you, articulate, empathic, intelligent Chloe for holding on to your beautiful spirit during these treacherous times in your life. I applause your tenacity and inner belief that you WILL recover fully, despite the damage Lyme disease and excessive antibiotics induced. Chloe’s message, conveyed in her interview, to promote support in school systems for teens dealing with Lyme disease can not be SHOUTED loud enough! I will help you get this platform going. Teens with Lyme need HELP!

It is my privilege to host “Lyme Light Radio”! Each week we look at Lyme disease and tick borne illness with a different lens. THere is so much we can learn from one another, as well as help promote awareness and dialogue. As always, I thank the powers that be, which helped place me in this role. Please share today’s link with your friends and group.

Dr. Lantsman and Chloe Rapp were profoundly honest and inspirational guests. Thank you for joining us and caring enough to help others. Also, thank you to our sponsor Advanced Cell Training, at AdvancedCellTraining.com, for helping Lyme Light Radio shine.

Healing Intention from Katina Makris speech, Lyme Disease Awareness Rally, Washington DC, 2013

Katina Makris Lyme Rally DC
Katina Makris Lyme Rally DC

“In order to overcome Lyme and be well, it is vital to use the power of our mind-body healing power. You must BELIEVE  in your vibrant future. You must SEE yourself there. Belief is a powerful energy. It triggers the brain to create healthy, feel good neuro-transmitters, which it turn jump start the immune system. BELIEF is something we can each instill. YOU can set a healing intention of your own. You can set an image of yourself in your mind’s eye that is strong and vital and glowing. I did this when I was wrecked, 5 years trapped at home, trembling on my living room sofa, in despair and too weak to walk without help. My doctor said my nervous system was so fragile that in older days he  would have hospitalized me on tranquilizers for repair. Instead, he had me mimic the rest cure in my home. It was an isolating, cavernous time for me.

But, receiving a Lyme diagnosis after 5 years of prominent New England doctors and hospitals telling me nothing was wrong with me other than chronic fatigue syndrome and migraines, I actually felt HOPE. Receiving the Lyme diagnosis gave me hope, because I BELIEVED I could overcome a bacterial infection. That belief gave me power. That power gave me a mission. That mission made me work hard on my commitment. And, I learned how to use the mind-body healing pathway. In those months daily, I visualized myself as strong, vital, radiant and healthy, spreading my arms high and wide like a grand copper beech tree.

And, Here I stand before you, 8 years later, healthy, whole and that very image I willed myself to be. No more Lyme disease, no more chronic fatigue syndrome and I am impassioned to help change the future. To change the future of this Lyme disease atrocity. To help us all use our collective intention to bring healing for all.

Right now here today, in addition, I utter a plea—May this illness be stopped! May the people in power start to listen.  Your voices, your tireless efforts, your willingness to leave your homes, and many of you on limited resources, find your way here to Freedom Plaza is an outpouring of passion, of intention, of commitment, of belief! I applaud every brave spirit here today. Your will is mighty, your heart is powerful and together we are creating a groundswell. Our history, our collective story, our understanding of what Lyme disease looks like and feels like, moves us to take risk, to speak the truth and to manifest a change.  We will amend the suffering, the denial, the crooked thinking.

I believe in the power of the mind, the calling of our heart, and the mighty force of our will. When we can draw on these inner resources well then we can move mountains. We can affect change. We can heal ourselves, others, the planet. If we can all focus together, aligning our hearts and minds in a common energy, then that unified force gains power and momentum.

I believe we can change the future of Lyme disease. I feel the awareness shifting, the call of hundreds of thousands of voices in dire need, pleading for help. I am honored to be a voice for others, to push the envelope, to shift the tides regarding this illness. And, I need us to all bind together.

In my final moments with you now,  I would like to set a healing intention. A healing intention for the Lyme community, as well as each of you individually. Let us take a moment together. Close your eyes if it helps you to center. Put your hand over your heart. In your mind’s eye see yourself as powerful and strong. Now, drop your awareness from your mind, down into your heart. Feel its steady, knowing presence.  It is from our hearts that we heal. Now we bind our mind, our heart and willpower with an intention.

I speak these words of healing intention, with hope. Hope for your healing, for the Lyme community’s healing and for an end to this epidemic. Here are my words of healing intention:

I believe in a healthy future for myself, for my loved ones and those who suffer with Lyme disease.

I trust that the right people, resources and energies will align to arrest this epidemic.

With my own personal will and intention I move forward into a happier, healthier, Lyme-free tomorrow.

May each and every one of us be guided and protected today and always.

Thank you for having me here today. You are wonderful, gifted people. It is my privilege to be in your company.”

National Lyme Disease Rally, Washington, DC, May 25

Please consider coming to Washington, DC for a rally on a public health crisis–Lyme Disease, the #1 fastest spreading infectious illness in the USA. MayDay is the time and place to urge out government and populace to ‘wake up’ to the hidden epidemic

ALL people of all ages, nationalities, regions can be infected by this tricky bacteria, transmitted by common ticks. Your support and presence is essential. See details below:

MAYDAY 2013!
SATURDAY, MAY 25th, 2013
FREEDOM PLAZA
10:30 AM – 2:30 PM
WASHINGTON, DC

Please plan on joining us this Memorial Day weekend at FREEDOM PLAZA in Washington, DC, to show your support for Lyme disease patients, friends and family, promote awareness and URGE CHANGES!

Why a Rally?

Lyme disease and related infections and complications negatively affect millions of lives everyday, yet the denial and ignorance surrounding our disease(s) is astounding. We continue to face far too many needless issues, including (but certainly not limited to) accurate testing, diagnosis/misdiagnoses, an uninformed and misinformed medical community, effective treatments, insurance company denials, obtaining disability, and the high costs of available treatments. The multitude of issues surrounding this highly politicized disease(s) is so vast that the rally is not focusing in on one particular issue for MAYDAY 2013. Pick one, Be sure to put those issues on your Rally signs for the world to see!

As in years’ past, this year’s MAYDAY Rally will help to promote awareness of Lyme disease, to continue to build camaraderie within the ever-growing community, and to keep the pressure on our elected officials and insurance companies to take action regarding their negligence.

What is THE most important aspect of any rally or protest?

PEOPLE, multitudes of us! LOTS! Droves! This Rally needs as many humans as possible to be the success that we all need it to be (Think MILLION HUMAN MARCH!). We need large numbers to effectively present our case not only before Congress and our President, but to the media and the world. There is nothing like a rally in front of the White House, in the heart of our nation’s capitol, to insure that the Lyme message is heard, loud and clear, and that the correct info (as opposed to all of the disinfo that we see daily) is made available!

Friday Evening, May 24th:

We will be gathering at the official event hotel, The Hilton Alexandria Mark Center (please see hotel info below), to meet and greet each other and create signs for the protest the following day. This does not mean that you can’t create your sign at home. Just remember that this National Park does not allow sticks, poles or any other type of holding device for our signs — only the paper signs themselves. Your sign should be what rings true to you, whether a cure, better diagnostic tests, better treatments, better physician education, removal of the flawed IDSA treatment guidelines, etc. You will be exercising YOUR right to protest about YOUR specific issues!

Sign Design Tips:
-Use fewer words so that you can make the font size of your letters/words/images larger and thicker. Trying to cram too much info onto a sign makes for poor visibility from afar. If someone needs to stand a foot or less away from a protest sign to understand it, then you may need to rethink your message strategy.

– Bold colors and contrasting colors stand out more and have a much higher visibility than soft pastels or light, pale colors. GO BIG & BOLD for MAXIMUM IMPACT!

AND BE SURE TO GO GREEN! Even if you cannot afford to purchase an official MAYDAY 2013 t-shirt, please wear your fave green t-shirt so that we will have the highest visibility and impact possible! Also, rain or shine, please bring along a green umbrella to help as a shield from rain or sun, and so that, when used in unison, we make a unique, colorful impact!

Saturday Morning, May 25th

Pre-10:00 AM: Please feel free to get up early and lend a hand with whatever needs to be done prior to the event’s opening time.

Also, while we do appreciate those of you who cannot attend but may have clicked “Going” to show your support, please change your response to “Not Going.” This will help us tremendously with our head-count estimates.

Carolina On My Mind

Four whirlwind days in one of my favorite states- North Carolina! I’m partial to this land of windswept beaches, blue tinged mountains, and stretching midlands. Most likely this ties in to my years living here, while at Duke University. But, the soft springtime air and gracious hospitality of North Carolineans cannot be dismissed. There is an easy comfort to this pretty region, and some mighty fine food to be savored!

Durham has blossomed. From the old smoky tobacco town I knew in the 1970’s, with its narrow downtown streets scented by a sweet aroma in the gentle mornings, the former, decaying infrastructure has been revamped to a vital commercial district. The college students must love it- great restaurants and clubs, darling shops and tree-lined, freshened streets everywhere.

The relic wooden slat Durham Bulls AA baseball stadium I used to watch minor league games at with my college boyfriend was funky; squeaking bench seats and old-timers spitting chew liberally. It was a colorful slice of small town pro-ball. We liked it. Now, Durham Bulls boast a gleaming, snazzy stadium, rivaling a major-league park in its glamour and comfort. What a skyward leap!

Duke, as you can imagine, has grown astronomically. Tons of new science buildings, hospital expansion, air-conditioned dormitories sprouted amid the old woodlands. I understand the need for progress as a cutting-edge campus and my heart shrank a tad, wistful for the former tie-dyed, frisbee days on the quad. The iPod force of sleek students trailing to classes is less congenial. My alma mater, however, still glowed benevolently in the fine Carolina springtime. Cherry blooms and daffodils dancing were bits of color to my New Englander’s snow-trained eye. What a delicious taste of beauty!

Though treasuring some reunion time with old friends, I came to North Carolina to work, and what long hours I expended! This state is severely infested with ticks, the primary Lyme disease carrier. Over a dozen people told me they pull at least 20 ticks off their bodies each summer, and a dozen a day from pets! Mild winters, lots of low-growing vegetation, and being in an obvious migratory bird fly-way brews a prime Lyme disease habitat. The very sorry situation is the North Carolina doctors and residents are extremely uneducated about this surging epidemic illness.

The North Carolina Lyme Disease Foundation brought me in to help amend the denial, offer solace to the stricken and promote Lyme dialogue. Special thanks go to John Dorney, President, Jan House, Treasurer, and the busy efforts of Frances Kuhlbars and Emily Amber for your excellent support and PR assistance. Dr. Jason Chow of Chapel Hill, and Mary Marchbanks at Carolina Hyperbarics, your generous alliance made dual locations possible for my venues.

As I am all too familiar with, now 40 “Lyme Talks” later, the stricken and caregivers limped in. The weakness, palsies, ashen color are palpable touchstones to my former Lyme-addled life, too. Yet, I gave two inspired, informative presentations, one in Raleigh, the other in Chapel Hill, while fielding massive Q&A’s. So much help is needed, with less than a handful of Lyme-literate doctors in the state. But the work has begun! As the first person to come in from out-of-state to offer support, I am honored to be a lamplight of hope and urge you on to keep Lyme disease awareness work in motion. Inroads can be made.

Dr. Jason Chow is asking all NC residents with Lyme disease to write up a clear, one page story of their Lyme illness and email it to lymeletters@ gmail. com, by April 15th. He aims to present 1,000 Lyme cases to the state Health Department, establishing that Lyme disease does exist throughout North Carolina and it needs recognition! Please participate if you are a resident. This very same measure needs to be modeled in all US states, helping us define the epidemic.

My speaking engagements were long and rather energetically demanding on me, but very worth it, as I know how crucial hope and resource is for those struggling. Having walked the “Lyme Road” for ten arduous years, I intimately fathom the importance a hand-hold of comfort provides.

Thank you one and all for coming out to meet me. I hope “Out of the Woods” finds a special place in your heart. And, lovely North Carolina, you still charm a Yankee girl like me with your blissful springtime grace!
