A year of profound awakening in the domain of tick borne disease, as the topic has finally become news worthy! I am truly blessed to host the weekly talk show program- “Lyme Light Radio with Katina”. What a supreme launch we have had!

I give thanks – to Dr.Pat Bacilli, Lyme Light Radio’s network owner who ‘tapped’ me in the first place to create this dynamic, much needed radio program. Your belief in me has been life altering. True gratitude to the entire team at The Dr. Pat Show – Linda Firing, Jesica Henderson, Kim Hunt for your production, creative design and mentoring. Collaboratively we have created a tremendously valuable educational and inspirational Lyme dialogue, ushering in a wave of transformation. Change can happen!

Dr. Kerry Clark to be on Lyme Light Radio 11/21

Lyme Light Radio with Katina welcomes Dr. Kerry Clark, who will be with us this Wednesday, 11/21, 4:00pm ET/1:00pm PT. With 20 years of tick research in the south, Dr. Clark shares stunning revelations that Lyme disease is more rampant in the southern United States than the north! Wake up America, ISDA, CDC and everyone! Join us to learn more about his fascinating and important work!

Dr. Kerry Clark is the Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Environmental Health. Dr. Clark came to the University of North Florida with a Masters in Public Health Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of South Carolina, where he conducted the first ecologic study of the Lyme disease bacteria in that state. He has been studying Lyme and other tick-borne diseases for the past 20 years. In addition to his research, he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in epidemiology and environmental health in the Department of Public Health at UNF.

Dr. Clark is committed to studying the ecology and epidemiology of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases in the southern U.S. He was the first to report finding Lyme disease spirochetes in animals and ticks in South Carolina, and in wild reptiles in South Carolina and Florida. He has documented the presence of Lyme disease bacteria, Babesia, and other tick-borne pathogens in wild animals, ticks, and humans in Florida and other southern states. Recently, he discovered two previously unrecognized Lyme Borrelia species in human patients in Florida, Georgia, and other states across the U.S.

Helping our Friends in Massachusetts Pass a Lyme Insurance Bill

CALL TO ACTION!

The Massachusetts Joint Committee on Financial Services has announced a hearing on H.989, An Act Relative to Lyme Disease Treatment Coverage, on Wednesday, November 13, 1:00-4:00 at the State House in Boston, Room A2. This bill will require that insurance companies cover open-ended antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease when prescribed by a physician.

WE NEED YOUR HELP, SO PLEASE

• attend the hearing,
• send written testimony,
• speak at the hearing, if you are able.

Tell them: 

• Where in Massachusetts you are from,
• Your personal story, briefly, on how Lyme has effected you or your loved ones
• The cost of Lyme (personally and economically) to you and your family. This part is important, as this hearing is before the Financial Services Committee.

1. If you were denied your physician-prescribed treatment by your insurance company, please tell the Committee so!

If your senator or representative is also a member of the Financial Services Committee, please speak with that person before the hearing. Our elected state officials need to know that Lyme disease is serious and costly, long term treatment can be essential, and many patients are being denied this treatment by their insurance companies.

Even if you do not plan on speaking or submitting written testimony, please come! Just your presence there sends a message that this bill is important. Let’s pack the hearing room!

If you are planning on speaking, you will be limited to 3 minutes. Since we don’t want to put the chairman in the awkward position of having to cut you off, please prepare your remarks in advance (3 minutes is about 2 typed pages). Practice reading or reciting what you will say, and time yourself.

Lyme Disease Survivor Success Story On Lyme Light Radio

Lyme Light Radio welcomes a heroic Lyme disease survivor to our show, Laura Wild! Join us today for a dose of inspiration!

Laura Wild is a freelance writer, medical student, and Lyme disease patient advocate from northern New York. Her dramatic story has been featured on the Discovery Channel and the Learning Channel’s “Mystery Diagnosis” which chronicles her bitter fight for survival through a nightmare of complex medical diagnoses. She saw over 50 doctors on her quest for a diagnosis, and was deemed a “medical mystery”. Laura was misdiagnosed as having fibromyalgia (FMS), Addison’s disease, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and countless others. Determined to seek out the cause of her vast array of symptoms, she researched various chronic illnesses on the internet and began to read into the possibility of tick borne diseases.The more she read, the more things seemed to make logical sense. Because of Laura’s outdoor pursuits, she had dozens of tick bites in her life, all of which had been dismissed by her onslaught of doctors. For almost a decade Laura was essentially diagnosed as having a “symptoms” because chronic fatigue always has a cause.

Finally, after suffering needlessly for ten years being diagnosed with symptoms and syndromes Laura went to see her Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD), Dr. Joseph J. Burrascano Jr. Dr. B discovered she had been infected with Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, babesiosis and bartonella infection. By the time she got in to see Dr. Burrascano, Laura was completely disabled, and had zero quality of life. Dr. Burrascano was and is Laura’s guardian angel, and his experience with tick-borne disease treatment saved her life. After 5 years of aggressive antibiotic treatment, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), Laura is now a medical student and a volunteer in the Lyme disease community helping other people receive the education, strength and support they need to work on healing.
