Guest Teachers -Dane Boggs and Dane Johnson, join “Walking the Lyme Road” at Art of Living Retreat Center – bringing Rife technology and nutritional information to recovery

Dr.Jodie Dashore and Katina Makris, are leading a Lyme disease and autoimmune illness healing and educational weekend retreat from May 10-14, 2017, at the Art of Living Retreat Center in Boone, NC.

Aimed to bring much needed information to the Southern states of the USA, where this infectious illness is surging rapidly, with migratory birds dropping Lyme disease infected ticks into the local habitat, many individuals have become infected with the dangerous bacteria borrelia burgdorferi and associated tick borne infections, yet regional doctors are completely unaware and not properly testing or diagnosing.

Thousands of cases, even with the acute onset fever and tell-tale bull’s eye rash, are being brushed off as spider bites, or a suspect virus. Medical and state professionals in regions like Florida, Arkansas, Texas, South Carolina, Mississippi and more, somehow ‘believe’ this rapidly spreading infectious disease does not cross their state border. Though we know nearby Virginia and Maryland are endemically stricken!

When the Lyme disease spirochete bacterium migrates from the blood stream into tissues, joints, glands, organs and even the spinal fluid and to the brain, the infection induces profound symptoms and clinically ‘looks like’ fibromyalgia, RA, CFS, Lupus, MS, parkinson’s, ALS, dementia, ADD/ADHD, bi-polar, autism and assorted neuropathies and heart conditions. Even cases of Interstitial Cystitis, IBS, migraines need to be examined for Lyme disease as a root cause.

Our medical system is using a very faulty, outdated 40 year old ELISA antibody test, and scientific research money has not been granted to unravel the mechanisms of this aggressive bacterial illness, a cousin to syphilis. Thankfully, the pioneering ILADS.org community is educating health care practitioners on what cutting edge lab and tests to use for diagnostics and early acute treatments are successful with 6-12 weeks of rotational antibiotics and anti-parasitic meds.

The GREAT tragedy is when Lyme is ‘missed’ in the early weeks of infection and then -8 months, 3 years, 20 years later we find severely compromised patients with a vast array of symptoms, endless pain, catastrophic fatigue and cognitive and neurological damages.

Dr. Dashore and myself are both survivors of advanced neurological Lyme disease and have thousands of clinician hours between us, using the best of Integrative and Natural Medicine techniques, to help restore the damages the infection induces, as well as dealing with the emotional and spiritual recovery process from this chronic debilitating illness.

We are honored to welcome two VERY talented special guest teachers to “Walking The Lyme Road” weekend. Both of these men, named Dane, have recovered fully as well from advanced Lyme cases, without heavy antibiotic warfare use.

Dane Boggs, will educate us on the forms of frequency and energy healing, in his presentation on Rife technology and reiki. And, Dane Johnson will help us understand the aspects of nutrition and deficiencies we must address for healing.

About Dane Boggs:

Dane was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah where he graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After college he purchased and remodeled homes in Pittsburgh before settling in Jacksonville in 1981. He started Boggs Construction Co. in 1983 where he remodeled and built Custom Homes along the First Coast until 2006.

In 2004 Dane was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. He used oral antibiotics for one year and although he improved, he was still sick. He then used intravenous antibiotics for a second year. They also helped him but not enough to beat the disease. As he says, “A stalemate had been reached between the Lyme and myself”. He knew he had to try something different and he started using an Electrical Frequency Generator -Rife machine. Using certain electrical frequencies for Lyme he became much healthier. He attributes his return to health as a result of Rife technology and Reiki.  Dane became a distributor of the GB4000 Frequency Generator and Mopa in 2008.

In 2009 he co-founded the Northeast Florida Lyme Association – NEFLA with a few friends and Lyme Disease sufferers. In 2014 NEFLA became the FLDA – Florida Lyme Disease Association. At that time Dane resigned from the FLDA to pursue his passions, Rife and Reiki.

As Dane regained his health in 2008 he also finished his 200 hour yoga training certification. He received his Qi Gong training and certification from Pragata and Master Hong Liu of China. But he feels the introduction to Reiki helped him the most. It boosted his immune system and helped him beat Lyme Disease. “I am so fortunate and grateful to be well again, Reiki was an integral part of my recovery.” He feels we do not need to suffer as we do, Rife and Reiki can bring us greater harmony, health and happiness. Amazing things can happen when you tap into the healing energy of the universe.” Dane recently completed his book, “REIKI AWAKENING, A Spiritual Journey” in 2012. Revisions were made in 2014.

Living Well With Lyme Disease Healing Workshop

Lyme disease is the fastest spreading infectious illness of the modern day, exploding to the rate of over 300,000 cases annually in the USA alone, with an estimated another 500,000 not being recognized by the average physician or lab and being misinterpreted as an autoimmune illness. HIV at its peak in the early 1980s showed 104,000 new cases annually. This epidemic is spreading faster with ticks as the primary carrier and all demographics and ages groups potentially vulnerable. We are in the midst of a public health care crisis with scant support for the afflicted or those in question.

Dr Richard Horowitz, MD, Dr Tom Francescott, ND and myself, Katina Makris, CCH, CIH offer an all inclusive weekend for Lyme disease resource and recovery at beautiful Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. Please join us June 17-19, 2016.

We address the medical aspects, detoxification protocols, homeopathic support and emotional and spiritual sides of this often chronic illness in a nurturing and wholesome environment. No one leaves without gaining tools and insights for their mending as well as information for loved ones.

Pure Encapsulations: The Science Behind the Supplements with Barry W. Ritz, PhD.

When I was completely destroyed by Lyme disease, bedridden for three years and multiple organs, glands and bodily systems damaged, I felt I would be left living life from inside my home and on the sidelines. Many people with chronic diseases need to nourish the depleted bodily systems, as well as repair damages. Nutritional supplements and herbals are absolutely essential tools in this healing path. I am now proud to be 100% recovered from autoimmune syndromes and advanced neurological Lyme disease. One of the KEY COMPONENTS in my recovery was the use of the beautiful products PURE ENCAPSULATIONS make. They helped me reclaim my health and overcome so many symptoms.

I swear their Mitochondria ATP cured the CFS in 2 weeks and without their CoQ10, DHEA, quercitin and more I do not know if I would be as vital as I am now!! Considered the ‘Clinique” of the supplement spectrum, PURE contain no additives, fillers, dyes or fancy branding. They are clean, simple, pure and the highest grade supplements I favor. My office shelves and home cupboard are stocked!! I am a walking example of how these high grade nutritive supplements can change lives.

This week on “Lyme Light Radio”, I welcome Barry Ritz, PhD, of PURE ENCAPSULATIONS.  Dr. Ritz oversees the science and regulatory functions for a large international dietary supplement company.  He will discuss how companies develop and manufacture new products—under strict good manufacturing practices—the regulatory environment for dietary supplements and the importance of clinical studies.

Tune in this Wednesday, April 29 at 4PM ET/1PM PT on WBLQ AM 1270 or at http://www.transformationtalkradio.com for this chance to look under the hood at how nutrition scientists develop the products we all rely on!

When Lyme is Misdiagnosed as MS

This week on Lyme Light Radio, I am proud to welcome Christine Moore. For over a decade, Christine lived with undiagnosed Lyme disease and co-infections, which her doctors believed was MS. The MS treatments had no effect, and it was only after she received a proper diagnosis from a Lyme-literate physician that she was able to recover her health.
You can hear Christine’s amazing story of recovery this Wednesday, December 17 at 4PM Eastern Time at http://www.transformationtalkradio.com or WBLQ 1230 in Southern New England.
This is a critical topic and very frank example of what has sadly been happening for too many decades to too many individuals globally, as MS rates are soaring alongside the massive spread of tick borne disease infections! I URGE you to share this advance program notice with as many folks as you can, Christine is a tremendous advocate for proper Lyme disease diagnosis and treatments. Thank you Christine R. Moore for joining me,
Katina Makris CCH CIH
IMG_0842Christine Moore has been a Chronic Lyme Disease Sufferer for over 20 years. She was mis-diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1996, after the birth of her first child. Her case seemed classic:
* 30 year old female
* stressor was childbirth
-and-
* presenting symptoms were numbness coupled with visual disturbances.
The results of her neurological tests led to a conclusive diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis…..or did they?
Christine comes from an automotive marketing background having worked for Saturn Corporation and Tesla Motors. The Tesla assignment was very short lived due to an extreme episode of confusion, hypomania, panic attacks and complete insomnia. This led to her resignation from her “dream job.”
Christine continued followed the MS treatment course recommended by her neurologist who practiced mainstream medicine. After taking high dose IV steroids (for the second time) and beginning the taper down process, she collapsed and spent the next 2 years bedridden.
Christine was ultimately diagnosed properly with Chronic Lyme Disease and Co-infections in 2009. Her Lyme Literate Medical Doctor was able to get her well through the use of an integrative approach addressing pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals/supplements and dietary changes.
Christine resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband, two children and family dog.

Lyme Music Festival in the South Rocked Florida!

Lyme in The South Music Fest 2014Lyme in the South Music Fest was sheer magic! Thank you to the enormous collaboration of so many folks’ efforts, energy, talent, time and endless details that went into creating this beautiful event. Melissa Bell, Greg Kirk, Amy Boggs, and a troop of volunteers worked for months masterfully pulling off the first Lyme disease fundraiser and awareness festival in Florida.

I have to admit I am smitten with Jacksonville, Florida. I never expected this port city to be so enchanting – pristine weather, sunny skies, and a glimmering skyline welcoming us all. Our hosts’ gracious hospitality filled us with care and charm. My new posse of ‘girlfriends’ feel like kindred spirits to me, beautiful ladies who synergistically resonate over the Lyme disease atrocity.

Thanks to Dr. Kerry Clark for your brilliant, tireless tick studies; to Dr. Shirley Hartman for being wise enough to face the illness, and integrating so many recovery tools in your practice. Thank you to Dr. Terry Hashey for your open-minded and patently generous heart. Thank you to the 300+ people who came to the festival, some in wheelchairs, some using canes, drained with fatigue, to share with us all! Your spirits are mighty and your willingness to support this cause is ultimately life-changing on so many levels.

The venue was lovely, an open air restaurant and deck perched on the riverside, with food and beverages, a stage, and a great view. Newspapers, TVs, media attended. CNN coverage! The Lyme in the South Music Festival made a BIG footprint in the sand! We blew the lid open on the denial of Lyme disease existing in Florida and other Southern states. Every person I met at the Fest either had firsthand experience with Lyme disease or were there in allegiance. The case numbers are climbing. As Dr. Clark and Dr. Hartman pointed out – misdiagnosis is extreme!

Greg Kirk did a masterful job of coordinating the talent. Our performance schedule was dynamite. The seven hours flew by and seemingly without a hitch (though I know “behind the scenes” fires were being snuffed out). Our lineup was stellar:

  • 3:45 PM – Speaker: Melissa Bell of the Florida Lyme Disease Association
  • 4:00 PM – Greg Kirk of the Zen Engines
  • 5:00 PM – Speaker: Dr. Shirley Hartman of the Mandarin Wellness Center
  • 5:30 PM – Piano Rock Musician Alisa Turner
  • 6:30 PM – Speaker: Dr. Kerry Clark of the University of North Florida
  • 7:00 PM – Les Stroud of the “Survivorman” TV Series
  • 8:00 PM – Speaker: Author and activist Katina Makris of Lyme Light Radio

What an honor to be the keynote speaker, bringing hope and healing insight to our audience. As a recoveree and seasoned natural medicine practitioner, I aim to ignite your heart and will; then you can move mountains, personally and beyond.

Our musical performers were all phenomenal! As these Ticked OFF Festivals make their way around the country in the upcoming years, I tell you now – ATTEND! You will be blown away by the talent, the information, and the magic of synergy.

Our music opened with Gregg Kirk of the Zen Engines band, bringing us his beautiful new music, now healed from Lyme and attuned by his John of God experiences. Alisa Drake is a miracle. Atrociously stricken, bedridden, and now cured, she played her heart out. I was so moved by her exquisite songs and her truly lovely countenance. Bless you both.

Les Stroud is dynamite! Known for his blockbuster TV wilderness show “Surivorman,” I never knew Les is also a brilliantly talented songwriter, musician, and charismatic performer. He rocked the house – “Flying” was an exceptionally mesmerizing song.

Our closing act was the very renowned Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens. Besides his phenomenal guitar playing and songs, Pat is a hilarious storyteller. He held us in rapt attention, one vignette falling from his tongue after another.

Now soothed in Floridian night air, Jacksonville’s skyline filled with twinkling lights and starlight bathed us from above. I felt attuned to higher purpose as the “team” gathered on the top deck for a photo op. There we were – advocates, patients, musical performers, speaker, doctors, and real human beings, strung together in fellowship and cause from all walks of like and backgrounds, we banded together for this special festival and fundraiser. I felt grace, and in all honesty, I saw my future laid before me – crystal clear.

Healing, hope, education, breaking down walls and hard work are my chords to strike as the months and years ahead unfurl. More Ticked OFF Music Fests to come! “Lyme Light Radio” to continue soaring around the globe, another book to complete, and joy, beauty, and love to be my wings of flight!

Thank you Florida Lyme Disease Association, Ticked OFF Music Fest, lovely Jacksonville friends and all the attendees. You are beautiful, wise people! And an extra dose of love to my sister, Barbara, who drove up from South Florida to join her big sister with the “Lyme Light” of change.

Visit Facebook to see photos – what a spectacular weekend. It goes down in my history book, for certain.

Namaste,

Neurological Lyme Borreliosis with Dr. Alan MacDonald

It is with great honor I interview the preeminent Lyme disease research pathologist, Dr. Alan MacDonald, on Lyme Light Radio with Katina Wednesday, March 19, 2014, 4 pm ET/1 pm PT.

Many people recall Dr. MacDonald and his historic work linking Lyme disease to Alzheimer while at South Hampton Hospital Labs, NY from the documentary film “Under Our Skin”. Sadly, the US Government, nor the CDC would fund further studies Dr. MacDonald aimed to do, proving the neurological connection advanced Lyme disease infections can create in humans. MS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s type illnesses all are potential outcomes of a bacterial infection caused by borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted by the common tick.

Dr. MacDonald has much to share on air with us. This is an interview I have been so excited for that I feel like a kid before Christmas, as I know this brilliant man’s ongoing current research  could change the face of out future regarding chronic neurological illnesses.

Though the CDC in 2013 upped their annual estimated new acute Lyme disease infection count from the long-standing 30,000 per year to a ten time higher figure of 300,000, we can’t help but wonder where these other several hundred thousands of cases each year have been?

What symptoms do these people exhibit and yet have not been diagnosed as Lyme disease? Are they dementia cases? Fibromyalgia? ALS? RA? MS? CFS?

Dr. MacDonald has proven still births and stroke to be Lyme induced. He cited an astonishing fact to me. Germany has a public health care system with meticulous diagnostic and treatment record keeping. They acknowledge Lyme disease diagnosis by clinical symptoms and openly treat it. In 2012 they reported 750,000 new Lyme disease cases. In 2013, they recorded 1,000,000 new Lyme disease cases! This country is a 1/3 the size of the USA. Our country is in denial, using an outdated lab test, screening for only 1 strain out of 300+ for Borrelia burgdorferi, and will adhere to a standard diagnosis from the IDSA and CDC of merely 4 qualifying symptoms for Lyme disease diagnostics:

  • Bulls-eye rash
  • Joint pain – knee
  • Meningitis migraine
  • Bell’s Palsy – facial droop

The former clinical diagnostic evaluation of pre-1980’s is no longer ‘permitted’ and physicians must rely on confirmation from a blood test, or they tell a patient ‘you do not have Lyme disease’, though a patient presents with couples of symptoms; joint pain and headaches, heart palpitations and knee pain, facial droop and weakness in extremities. The list goes on.

Please join us on TheDrPatShow.com, LymeLightRadio.com and TransformationTalkRadio.com for a cutting edge show!! This wil be one to listen to repeatedly.

ImageAlan MacDonald, MD, is a pathologist with a brilliant career spanning over 30 yrs. In the late 1970’s, he worked diligently to create tests to detect the newly discovered pathogen Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb). Dr. MacDonald was among the first to study Bb in humans. He was the first to publish evidence of Bb cystic forms, granular forms and cell wall deficient forms.

In 2008, Dr. Eva Sapi and Dr. Alan MacDonald published a groundbreaking paper concerning Bb forming protective biofilms, similar to other bacterial pathogens, providing evidence Bb infections are harder to eradicate and more difficult to treat. This information can be seen in the movie Under Our Skin.

Through his research, and with the help of other leading researchers in the fields of molecular and cellular biology, Dr. MacDonald is continuing to pioneer a broader understanding about the behavior of Borrelia burgdorferi as an infectious pathogen.

Thank you Dr. MacDonald for your commitment to the Lyme disease crisis, for your tireless research and for joining me on “Lyme Light Radio”.

Latest Lyme Disease News Updates

Dear friends,

I am delighted to offer a guest blog from Nancy Dougherty, assistant to research doctor, John Aucott. Please see the latest news that is of value in expanding our understanding of this exploding epidemic and many twisting threads of the often complex situation. Thank you Nancy- you are a wonder!

Katina I. Makris, CCH, CIH

author of “Out of The Woods”, host of “Lyme Light radio with Katina” at LymeLightRadio.com

Lyme disease continues to be in the news despite the winter season.  -The breadth of this epidemic is gaining recognition and credibility.

Stanford University conducted a study (published in the March issue of the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases) that has found infected ticks are widespread throughout the San Francisco Bay Area (-infected with Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease, as well as with Borrelia miyamotoi, a newly identified human pathogen). http://news.stanford.edu/pr/2014/pr-ticks-bay-area-021814.html   This study has gotten worldwide attention and is helping dispel the notion that Lyme disease is only a northeast & upper midwest problem.  -It can be contracted elsewhere, including California!  Many are viewing this Stanford study as a “wake-up call”.  http://www.sfgate.com/health/article/Lyme-disease-more-common-in-Bay-Area-than-5267529.php#page-2

Most people know about the importance of mice and deer in the life cycle of ticks, but migratory birds are also known carriers of ticks.  A hawk in Vancouver Canada was recently discovered to be the first bird of prey known to host ticks containing the Lyme bacteria, Borrelia burgdoferihttp://www.vancouversun.com/health/Vancouver+Island+hawk+first+found+with+ticks+carrying+Lyme/9487629/story.html

A Bay Area health consultant estimates the potential prevalence of Lyme disease in the US exceeds 1.5 million people.  http://www.spirochicks.com/2014/02/cdcs-survey-results-on-self-reported.html  The CDC has not given prevalence numbers for Lyme disease but acknowledges 300,000 new cases per year in the US.  (In comparison, there are 50,000 new cases/year of HIV/AIDS in the US)

One of the more innovative strategies for breaking the transmission cycle of Lyme disease is an oral bait mice vaccine pellet that has been developed by US Biologic.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/c-m-rubin/the-global-search-for-edu_b_4854758.html?utm_hp_ref=tw   This aims to reduce the rampant escalation of tick-borne pathogens but could take years to impact the disease incidence numbers.

For those wondering how Lyme survivor Angeli VanLaanen did at the Olympics, she finished 11th in the halfpipe and won hearts, but not a medal, with her inspirational recovery and exciting skiing.

Hope these updates help you and your loved ones stay healthy and informed.

All the best,

Nancy

Dr. Wayne Anderson Discusses Genome Flaws and Links to Chronic Lyme Disease

Some people get infected with the Lyme disease bacteria (borrelia burgdorferi), take the prescribed antibiotics and pull out of the flu like pains and malaise readily. Certain folks get infected and their ultra capable immune function and genetic ancestry enables them to fend off the infection all together. Life goes on smoothly.

Then, there are the estimated 4,000,000 plus people in the USA, and millions more worldwide, whom are struggling with devastating chronic forms of illness created by Lyme disease. Their lives are compromised, fortunes are spent on treatments, many are misdiagnosed with auto-immune illnesses and Lyme or co-infections are the true culprits.

Why do some of us get destroyed by the bacterial infection and others not? Susceptibility is a factor in all illnesses – from a tendency to strep throat, pneumonia, MS or advanced neurological Lyme disease.

Dr. Wayne Anderson of the prominent Gordon Medical Associates team joins me on Wednesday, February 19 1pm PT/4pm ET on Lyme Light Radio. We will explore the fascinating studies of Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker and the ‘genome flaws’ or genetic predisposition some of us were born with that set us up for Lyme disease to create maiming afflictions and ‘trigger’ other disorders.

This is a show you do NOT want to miss! When I heard Dr. Anderson present this information at ILADS Boston 2012, a major ah-ha moment clicked for me! This is ground breaking work and the reason why I was able to heal 100% from advanced neurological Lyme disease, by addressing these issues. It works!

ImageWith a background in education, Dr. Wayne Anderson understands the role of teaching in medical care. Working with grade school students he saw that diet and environment impacted student’s mood and behavior. This sent him back to school for training as a Naturopathic doctor. A growing focus on natural healing approaches in clinical practice in Oregon caused him to broaden his assessment and treatment skills and he earned the designation of Physician Assistant.

For two decades, Dr. Anderson practiced in a busy community-based family medical center, treating individuals and families from birth to old age. His emphasis on patients experiencing chronic illness grew. As he became aware of the prevalence of chronic Lyme disease and related conditions he realized the important part they play in chronic illness.

In 2002, Dr. Anderson left family practice to work with Eric Gordon MD. Now he has a practice with a concentration on chronic illness, using tools and experience from both conventional and integrative medicine. At GMA, with a growing focus on Lyme disease, he has developed a deeper understanding of chronic illness, its treatment, and the frontiers still available as possible solutions.

A curious and dedicated clinician, Dr. Anderson is committed to the ongoing process of learning and teaching. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Anderson maintained his initial focus on teaching. For over 20 years he taught medical students at Touro Osteopathic Medical School, and supervised residents from Sutter Hospital and interns from the Physician Assistant programs in the clinic setting.  He is also a popular speaker on the topics of Lyme disease and neurotoxin illness.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Anderson has known that his patients are partners in the process of learning about and treating their illness, whether they choose conventional or alternative medicine or a combination of both. He listens to understand each patient’s strengths and challenges and improve his effective interaction with them. He sees every person as complex, integrated, and unique, and believes that treatment should optimize health and well-being.

An avid film historian and true music enthusiast, Wayne spends his spare time watching movies, old and new, and listening to a wide selection of music.

Thank you Dr. Anderson – your work with tick borne diseases and ability to educate are brilliant.
